Sunrise Hike at Sparks Lake

Join Colby Brown for a sunrise shoot at the gorgeous Sparks Lake, located 45 minutes from Sunriver. We will focus our time in the field talking about gear, composition, exposure and storytelling. A tripod will be required. Filters such as ND or CPL can be used, but are not required. Return by 8AM at the latest.

Departure time: 4:45am Sparks Lake is an approximate 45-minute drive from the resort

We’ll explore the neighborhood and experiment with shutter speed and flash to make exciting daytime action photos. While we pedal we’ll play with panning techniques and using flash to freeze action with high-speed sync.

This will be followed by an hour walk along the rivers found in Sunriver, Oregon, which should provide a variety of different wildlife opportunities for the class.

Long exposure is a unique technique that allows you to manipulate time and create unique and breathtaking images when increasing exposure. It transforms waterfalls and fast moving rivers into milky ethereal shapes, quiets down the oceans, blurs out clouds moving in the wind or even turns cars and stars into trails of light. If you want to learn how to integrate this technique to your photography in the wonderful settings of Oregon, this workshop is for you.

NOTE: This session is two full class blocks; buses will depart at 1:30pm. Shuttle pick-up is in front of the Sunriver Main Lodge.

Equipment Needed: Tripod, 16-35mm f/2.8 GM, 24-70mm f/2.8 GM or 24mm f/1.4 lens, 10 or 13 stop ND filter for lens, shutter trigger / intervalometer

You'll learn from timelapse master, Drew Geraci, the in's and out's of properly shooting dual scenes at the same time with only a single camera. You'll then be given instruction on how to blend the two mediums together perfectly in Adobe After Effects to create mind bending shots that will wow your viewers.

Capture the night sky in a whole new way. Watch stars and galaxies shimmer to life through the use of astro-timelapse photography. Participants will learn how to find the Milky Way using multiple methods, how to focus in the dark and then shoot the Milky Way over a 3-4 hour period. This is an intermediate level class and will require you to know the basics of photography as well as how to compile and execute timelapse photography.
